Addison Event – Wednesday, Feb. 10 – Something for everybody. We’ll visit the Cavanaugh Flight Museum at Addison Airport and then tour the nearby Mary Kay Museum. The Cavanaugh Flight Museum chronicles the history of aircraft from World War I, World War II and Korea. You'll see aircraft refurbished to the condition they were in when they rolled off the assembly lines, such as the Fokker D VII, Sopwith Camel, P-51 Mustang, Spitfire, MIG 15 and others. It also has one of the largest collections of signed print art in the Southwest. All the aircraft are in comfortable, fully enclosed hangers. We will then eat lunch at our own expense at the Mary Kay cafeteria – not the typical company cafeteria – with a lovely view of a garden area. They welcome visitors and the food is both good and inexpensive. Then we’ll tour the Mary Kay Museum and see the history behind Mary Kay Ash and her world-famous company, Mary Kay Cosmetics. Displays show many of the lavish rewards given to salespeople who made the Mary Kay line famous, including diamond bar pins, diamond rings and the ultimate prize – the pink Cadillac. We’ll depart the Texins Activity Center at 10 a.m. and return about 3 p.m. Cost of $16 per member and $18 per nonmember includes entry fees. Please register by Feb. 3.

Garland Symphony – Friday, Feb. 19 – Join us for a delightful voyage to the unknown produced by the Garland Symphony Orchestra. Test your musical knowledge of nautical-themed movie favorites, or just sit back and enjoy an evening of spectacular film scores from the greatest movie composers of all times. We will meet at 6 p.m. for dinner at Dos Banderas Tex-Mex Cuisine, 614 Main St., in Garland at our own expense. Then we will travel a few blocks to the main auditorium of the Granville Arts Center, 300 N. Fifth St., and hear wonderful music played by over 90 professional musicians. Cost is $20 per member and $22 per nonmember, which includes a 25% discount offered by the Garland Symphony for TIAA. Please register by Feb. 12.

Greet the Troops at DFW – Thursday, Feb. 25 – Help us to greet more than 100 armed forces passing through DFW airport on their way home for two weeks of well-deserved R&R from Iraq and Afghanistan. The troops are currently scheduled to arrive about 8 a.m., so our bus will leave the Texins Activity Center parking lot at 7 a.m. After greeting the troops, we will stop to eat at IHOP on the way back. We should return to Texins about noon. If you have a maroon TIAA T-shirt, please wear it. The bus is free, so the only expense is for our food. Be sure to register by Feb. 18 so we can inform you if the arrival time of the plane – and therefore the departure time of our bus – changes.

WinStar Casino Trip – Wednesday, March 3 – Join us as cultures collide at the new WinStar World Casino at Thackerville, OK, where five gaming plazas transform your experience into an international affair. Take in the sights of colorful fountains, hand-painted frescos and towering arches as you travel seamlessly through Paris, Beijing, Rome, Madrid and London. WinStar offers a dining experience to fit any taste. Travel to Beijing for a taste of Asian cuisine or visit the Midway Food Show for American fast-food favorites. Have your cake, and eat it too, at the Bread Basket Buffet or savor delicious Italian fare at Zar's that will have you singing "That's amore!” If we have 40 travelers, the bus ride is free. WinStar will pick us up at the Texins Activity Center at 9 a.m. and return us about 6 p.m. We had a full bus last July, so be sure to register early.

DFW Operations – Tuesday, March 16 – Get a glimpse of what goes on behind the walls in secure areas of DFW Airport. We will start our tour at the Administration Building and then go to the airport Fire Station and learn what their job is and how they do it. Then, come with us and ride Skylink with our guides. The trains arrive every two minutes and the average ride time is five minutes. There is a maximum ride time of nine minutes between the farthest points. Our last stop is Founders’ Plaza – a favorite spot for families, aviation enthusiasts and airport employees. The observation area offers magnificent views of many types of aircraft as they take off and land and provides a radio that broadcasts air traffic control communications from the FAA tower. We will depart the Texins Activity Center at 9:15 a.m. for the 10 a.m. tour, which lasts two hours. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes because there will be a good bit of walking. We will eat at Cheddars at our own expense after the tour and will arrive back at Texins about 2 p.m. Cost is $12 per member and $14 per nonmember. The tour is limited by DFW to 20 people, so the first 20 to register and pay will go on the tour.

Greenville Tour – Thursday, April 1 – Join us as we journey to Greenville to tour the Audie Murphy/American Cotton Museum and then visit Mary of Puddin Hill. The museum has exhibits that include a 15-minute video about the life of Audie Murphy, American's most decorated solder of World War II, with medals, uniforms and photos. The attached, newly expanded American Cotton museum includes artifacts and memorabilia pertaining to the area's historic cotton industry. Learn about planting, growing, ginning, baling, spinning and weaving of cotton. The historic Ende-Gaillard House, oldest house in the city, is on the museum grounds. Then on to a sweet visit to Mary of Puddin Hill. Mary Horton and her family purchased the property in 1840 and named it Puddin Hill. Mary's great-granddaughter and namesake, Mary Horton Launderdale, inherited the land some 100 years later. Far better than the land, she inherited the recipe for Mary's fruit cake. The rest is history. Come and see a scrumptious array of world-famous pecan fruit cakes and chocolate delicacies. Marvel at the amazing collection of sculptures made from real chocolate. We will view their chocolate and sugar Easter sculptures, highlighted by chocolate eggs similar to Faberge Easter Eggs. We will lunch at our own expense at Mary’s, whose lunch menu offers food as good as the famous fruitcakes and chocolates. There will be time to shop for goodies for the upcoming Easter weekend before departing for Dallas. We’ll leave the Texins Activity Center at 10 a.m. and return about 3 p.m. Cost of $15 per member and $17 per nonmember includes entry fees. Please register by March 25.

Believe It or Not! – Tuesday, April 20 – Catch a TI bus to Grand Prairie and explore Ripley’s famous collection of the most fascinating and bizarre oddities from all corners of the globe. Experience a cataclysmic earthquake or find yourself on the ocean floor! Step into a real Texas Twister and emerge safely to inspect what 200 mph winds can do! Mingle with Tinseltown's most famous stars – past and present – in Louis Tussuad's Palace of Wax with over 200 life-like figures. Relive unforgettable moments from Hollywood's classics and take your own pictures. We will leave the Texins Activity Center at 9:30 a.m., enter the Museums at 10 a.m., go to the Golden Corral restaurant for lunch at our own expense, and return to Texins about 2:30 p.m. Cost of $20 per member and $22 per nonmember includes entry fees. Please register by April 13.
