ANNA HIGH SCHOOL MENTOR PROGRAM  - November 2010

The Beginning
“ A hundred years from now it will not matter what my bank account was, the sort of house I lived in, or the kind of car I drove…. But the world may be different because I was important in the life of a child.”
- Author Unknown

A MENTOR is a person who volunteers time and care in the life of a youth offering encouragement and guidance for the youth. They will work to provide a special, encouraging relationship that will hopefully become a foundation for success in that youth’s life.

OUR PROGRAM started in the high school with 6 mentors in the spring of 2005. We have expanded it to 23 mentors in this school year. This has allowed growing slowly and a better understanding the task in running the program. We expanded it to the middle school in 2006 using the same type growth pattern. The mentor, counselors, teachers, and Anna ISD staff, support the program and we measure the student’s progress. The purpose of this program is build a relationship which enables each student to finish high school and hopefully continue their education in college or other schools. The second phase is to work with each student that wants to get post high education to be eligible and gain grants and scholarships. We ask the mentor to meet with their student (“Partner”) once a month as a minimum. The program has proven to be very successful for many of the Partners and most have graduated from high school.

Our community ROLE is to support the program with volunteers, funds when needed, and jobs. We always need new mentors as the success of the program pushes to expand it. Training and ongoing support is provided to help make this a successful experience in your life.
