Help Needed for Haiti A series of earthquakes measuring 6.5 to 7.3 on the Richter scale devastated Haiti this week. The American Red Cross is working with its partners in the global Red Cross and Red Crescent network, including the Haitian Red Cross, to help those affected by the disaster. TI retirees can join active TI employees in making tax-deductible donations for Haiti earthquake relief through the American Red Cross Haiti Relief and Development fund and the International Response Fund at: http://american.redcross.org/ti-emp. Gifts to the American Red Cross will support emergency relief and recovery efforts to help those affected by the earthquakes. Assistance provided by the American Red Cross may include sending relief supplies, mobilizing relief workers and providing financial resources and recovery. Donations to the International Response Fund also can be made by phone at 1-800-REDCROSS. "The recent devastation from the Haiti earthquake has left countless lives lost, millions struggling to survive, and unimaginable property damage. We are proud to have compassionate TI employees and retirees who have contacted the TI Public Affairs office ready to help," said Ezra Penermon, director of community relations. "We wanted to provide the most efficient, effective and coordinated way for TIers to respond immediately and have worked with the American Red Cross to create the microsite dedicated for TI employee and retiree giving." TI is actively monitoring the situation to determine if the Haiti disaster warrants a response beyond normal corporate contribution guidelines and, if so, what level of support is appropriate. | ||
